She's still smiling!

Hard at work! I like it that way:)

Little Red Hen

To promote the production of Chicken Little our librarian prepared the kids with a little chicken of her own. This little red hen spent the day in the library and was very well behaved. Students enjoyed having some "real" livestock in the library!!

Co-teachers

My wonderful co-teachers! They will love being on the blog!

Mrs. Penka

Mrs. Penka teachs math and looks beautiful in orange!

Mrs. Williams

Mrs. Williams teaches language arts and also looks beautiful in orange.

Together we work hard to make everyday a learning day. Thanks ladies for being a part of this blog!

Conservation District Posters

Each year the Lane County Conservation District has a short grade level assembly with the classes. After the presentation students are given the supplies to create and enter a poster/limmerick contest sponsored by the Conservation District. Here the 5th grade class begins their posters for the 2011 school year.

That looks pretty cool. What else shall I add?

Poster Work continues.....well sorta! Had to have a time out for picture taking!

Laptops are WonDeRfuL!

Students with laptops...loving it! They used an interactive site to find latitude and longtitude. Awesome site for learning this standard!
Getting pretty intense...you have to search and find the coordinates to find the lost student (on the screen, that is:)!

States of Matter

The fourth grade began with learning the 3 states of matter. Can you name the 3 most common? Here they cut pictures to be placed on a large class chart to show examples of solids, liquids, and gases!

Science Equipment

Using science stuff can be fun! Wow! Their books are open, and everyone is attentive!

Do you know what the meniscus might be?

Measuring with beakers and cylinders!
We also used these to measure volume with the water displacement method, and eventually measured density!

Science Begins!

Sixth grade started the year with a states of matter review and then learned the difference in a mixture and compound. Which is it? After seperating wheat, pennies, iron filings, and sand this is most definitely a MIXTURE! It can be seperated and is not chemically connected!
Hmmm, this looks cool! Let me, let me!!

Noun Town display

The fun begins! Each group identified, applied, and used nouns to work their way through the first phase of Grammar Zone.

Labels:

Students gather in the gym to begin the Noun Town adventure. Noun Town is an interactive simulation that students will engage in to learn the basic parts of speech.

This year the 4th-6th grade students are all engaged in a writing time. To begin, the students began the year in Noun Town. Our very own librarian agreed to act as the mayor of noun town as students began the Grammar Zone Noun Town adventure. Thanks JK!!

Students are excited to begin the adventure and solve the mystery surrounding Noun Town. While learning about nouns, students uncover the person, place, and thing that has Noun Town all in a tizzy.

ScHoOl DaZe.

Welcome to ScHoOl DaZe!

I have created this blog so parents, community members, and all others can get a glimpse of what goes on throughout our school year. There will be all classes of students included, but most will focus on the children and events within the fourth, fifth, and sixth grade social studies and science classroom. Throughout the year we celebrate and learn about so many different things, I thought it would be awesome to be able to share some of our times with everyone out there. Most parents can't be apart of every moment of their child's education, so hopefully this will provide them with a glimpse of some of our "fun" and "educational" activities. Watch for up-dates and please leave comments. We will be anxiously awaiting them. So here we go.........And don't forget to add us to your favorites!!
